1988 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport VR Clone, 1987 custom re-upholstered VR interior, 30,000 documented miles, stock 2.8 litre engine, 4-speed automatic with o/d, 4-wheel disc brakes, 16" custom Hot Wheels, Hankook K106 directional V speed rated tires, 134a A/C system, fresh Pitch Black Nason paint and clear coat. 2nd owner car.
This '88 VR is a clone of a 1987 VR. It started its life as a black w/grey interior "little old lady" Celebrity Eurosport loaded with every option. Our worn-out 1987 VR, that we had owned since 1992, was stripped bare of all of the VR components, inside and out. Everything was carefully refinished and accuratly re-assembled onto the '88 replacement car. All ground effects, trim pieces, and exterior parts are like new. Stainless-steel hardware was used in place of the factory pop-rivets throughout. New GM weatherstripping was used inside and out on all of the windows. The fit and finish turned out better than stock. I would consider this a mild resto-mod as it is not an exact, 100% clone of the original VR. The interior door panels and seats are not the originals, but copies made from the original patterns with slight upgrades, new cloth, and better leather. The original brilliant red carpeting was too far gone and could not be replaced or re-used, and the gray carpeting in the clone was still in excellent shape so that is what was used. The lower door panels were then made to match the carpeting. But the exterior is 100% intact and complete. Rear disc brakes from a 1986 Pontiac 6000 STE, with new calipers and discs, were also added. As were the 16" KMC Hot Wheels. I still have the original black 1987 VR 14" wheels in storage. This car was professionally appraised by Jim Luikens in 2006.
The entire project, which took nearly 10 months to complete, can be seen in much more detail at: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/805391 .
